Mr. Millstein joined Cerberus in October 2007 as a senior investment professional. From 2009 to 2017, he served as Head of European and Asian Real Estate and Distressed Assets for Cerberus. In that role, Mr. Millstein led a team that was the world’s foremost investor in European non-performing loan (“NPL”) portfolios, commercial real estate, and residential mortgages in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. In aggregate since 2010, Mr. Millstein’s team has purchased European real estate properties and portfolios with a total transaction value of approximately $39 billion and invested more than $9 billion of equity across commercial real estate assets, residential mortgages, and NPL portfolios.
In 2017, Mr. Millstein became Global Head of Real Estate for Cerberus where he currently leads a team of approximately 100 real estate professionals worldwide. The Cerberus Global Real Estate Platform invests across the capital structure in commercial and residential properties and portfolios, as well as directly into real estate operating companies and servicing platforms.
Prior to joining Cerberus, Mr. Millstein was the Head of Corporate and Investment Banking for Aozora Bank from 2004 to March 2007, where he was responsible for the bank’s corporate lending, real estate, leveraged lending, structured credit, and principal investing businesses. Prior to Aozora Bank, he was at Morgan Stanley for ten years, from 1994 to 2004, most recently as Managing Director and head of high-yield and distressed principal investing in Japan and non-Japan Asia.
Mr. Millstein graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and Wharton School of Business. He is a member of numerous Cerberus senior leadership committees, including the Cerberus Capital Management Operating/ Management Advisory Committee, Private Equity Investment Committee, Europe Distressed Debt Investment Committee, and the Real Estate Committee.
